My seventh baby was unexpected. The Man and I had decided that six was enough. Then God saw fit to give us a seventh, a bonus baby, as I tended to refer to the pregnancy. My encore baby. And what an encore she turned out to be.

The moment I laid eyes on her I knew that she had Down syndrome. It was a shocking surprise, this extra chromosome, but I felt as though had been given a great gift. I felt honored that I was chosen to be this child’s mother.

The purpose of this blog is to celebrate life. My daughter has Down syndrome. And our life is more beautiful because she is in it.

In an effort to preserve some privacy, I do not use real names and I try to keep dates and other specifics somewhat vague.

I also blog about knitting and homeschooling and other fun stuff at woolandchocolate.com
